Dear BGR-1 Family, As we draw to the close of another summer school session and approach the final week of the fiscal year, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey we've shared over the past seven years. Serving alongside such a dedicated and talented team has been a privilege and a joy. I am humbled to have witnessed and been part of remarkable progress and achievement. Together, we’ve: Secured the only two bond issues passed in the last 50 years, fueling significant improvements and expansion of our facilities. Modernized our bus fleet, reducing the average age of our route buses from 11 years to just 4 before receiving delivery of yet another new bus just yesterday. Elevated student achievement, propelling our state report card score from the middle of the pack before COVID into the top 20% among over 500 districts in Missouri. Enhanced our compensation and benefits, moving our top-end teacher pay from mid-pack among the 58 school districts in Northeast Missouri to the top 15%, and introduced a well-received staff daycare. Maintained fiscal responsibility, achieving a balanced or surplus budget for the majority of these seven years, all while keeping one of the lowest tax rates in the region. Launched the first state-approved K-12 Gifted Program and Project Lead the Way Computer Science program in our district. None of this would have been possible without the steadfast support and visionary leadership of our school board. Their commitment to our strategic plan goals has provided the steady governance needed for our district's continuous growth. Attached here: https://tinyurl.com/52czk2pj are notes from our latest board meeting, thoughtfully compiled by Dr. Twellman, which offer a high-level overview of our ongoing initiatives. Looking ahead, we have much to be excited about. The Early Childhood Center is set to open, and the Prop S security and efficiency updates are nearing completion, alongside the expansion of our secondary library, the addition of two new storm shelters, and the creation of an ADA-accessible central office—all progressing ahead of or on schedule. These improvements will bring lasting benefits to our students and staff, ensuring a bright and prosperous future for our district. As I transition to my new role in Troy, I am confident that Mr. Larson will find a supportive and dedicated community in all of you. Your partnership and collaboration will be crucial as he steps into this leadership position. I am filled with optimism for the future of our district and am deeply grateful for the blessings of the past seven years. After July 1st, you can reach me at mattlfrederickson@gmail.com. I look forward to staying in touch and celebrating your continued successes. Here’s to the next chapter—onward and upward!   #BGBOBCATPRIDE   Matthew L. Edwin M. and Lucille Porter established the Porter Educational fund at the time of their death. Edwin M. Porter was the President/CEO and major stockholder of the Farmers Bank, now known as the US Bank, in Bowling Green, MO. As a local businessman and individual, Mr. Porter and his wife believed in the importance of education. Their desire was to help as many graduates from the Bowling Green High School to further their education in a four-year college or university as possible. This generous fund is an example of two individuals caring about the future and giving back to their community. The Bowling Green R-1 School District was indeed pleased to be a part of this estate and trust effort to name deserving individuals to receive these annual cash awards. In that regard, it was my pleasure to announce the following recipients: Hannah Post, Audrey Lovell, Benjamin Chance, Lily Bowen, and Hannah Akers. #BGBobcatPride

BGR-1 Family, It is with profound grief and sadness that I write to share some difficult news with our school community. Last night, a member of our senior class passed away, and many are struggling through this unfortunate loss. I know our community is hurting and overwhelmed by this news. Our main focus at this point is about support as we take care of the families, our students, staff and all who are impacted by this loss. Our teachers, counselors and administrators will be working diligently to meet the needs of individual students and staff members. Graduation Ceremonies previously scheduled for tonight, Friday, May the 17th have been postposed to tomorrow, Saturday, May the 18th at 7 p.m. in the BGHS Gym. Additional graduation practice scheduled for this morning has been cancelled. Every person processes grief differently and has different needs in the wake of a tragedy. For so many students and staff members, school is a safe place where we find community. Grief counselors advise schools to keep a normal routine as much as possible as that routine provides solace for large numbers of people. For those students and staff, we will have additional counselors from neighboring districts here to help this morning. This is a community that comes together to support those that are hurting. We are thankful for our BG Family. Dr. Frederickson Superintendent

Dear Bowling Green R-1 School District Community and Families, I hope this message finds you refreshed and rejuvenated after the restful four-day weekend. As we transition into April, a season of new beginnings, I am excited to share with you encouraging updates within our school district. Spring is in full swing, bringing with it the excitement of Spring Sports and Activities. This time of year marks the beginning of state MAP testing. It's a crucial period where our students demonstrate their academic growth and readiness. As we approach the final weeks of the semester, there is still much to be done. It's a time to finish strong and celebrate the achievements of our students and staff. I am particularly proud of our senior class, who have been working hard meeting their graduation requirements and are set to spread their wings just a few weeks away. This class is special to me, because they entered as 6th grade students when I arrived seven years ago to begin serving as your superintendent. Their growth and accomplishments serve as a testament to their hard work and dedication. To further highlight work in our school, I invite you to watch a video showcasing our achievements and ongoing initiatives. https://youtu.be/RLPMwIiD5jU In the video, you'll learn about the remarkable progress we've made, including: • Significant improvements in student performance, with APR scores ranking among the top three districts for our size statewide. • Recognition as a Purple Star District for our unwavering support of military families and veterans. • Establishment of innovative programs such as the state-approved gifted program and Project Lead The Way K-12 Computer Science Program. • Remarkable achievements in student activities and athletics, including multiple state championships and final four appearances. • Notable enhancements to our school facilities and infrastructure, made possible by the success of Proposition S and local funds. All projects are currently ON TIME AND ON BUDGET. Furthermore, I'm pleased to announce that all goals outlined in our recent strategic plan have been successfully met. This accomplishment reflects the dedication and hard work of our entire school community and particularly this school board. Lastly, as we reflect on our work, let's not forget the school board elections today, April 2nd. Your vote plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our district. Together, we have achieved remarkable progress while maintaining one of the lowest tax rates in Northeast Missouri. Thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to the Bowling Green School District. Matt Frederickson, PhD Superintendent Bowling Green R-1 School District
